How can the CertHE programme help me start a career in health and social care? 

The Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) is designed to give you a solid foundation for a career in the health and social care sector in England. This course will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to work in this dynamic field. Whether you’re new to health and social care, or already working in the sector, this programme provides a pathway to further education and professional growth. 

What qualifications do I need to apply for the CertHE in Health and Social Care? 

At DGHE, we assess each application individually. Generally, applicants require a qualification at Level 2 or GCSE equivalent, but we also welcome those with relevant work experience. If you’re over 21 and have been working in the health and social care sector, your experience could be considered in place of formal qualifications. We also accept international qualifications—contact our admissions team for more details. 

Do I need any specific English qualifications to join this programme? 

Yes, you’ll need to meet our English Language Requirements. This usually means having an IELTS score of 5.5, or a Grade 4/C in English GCSE, or Functional Skills Level 2. If English is not your first language, you may need to take an English test provided by DGHE. If you don’t meet the required standard, we offer a Pre-sessional English language course to help you improve your skills before starting the CertHE. 

What will I learn during the CertHE in Health and Social Care? 

The course is designed to build your academic confidence and prepare you for the challenges of the health and social care field. You will participate in interactive classroom-based learning where you will be able to apply theory to practice in real-world scenarios.  

 You will learn about reflective practice to enhance personal and professional development, explore scientific principles behind healthcare and improve communication and interpersonal skills such as empathy and conflict resolution. Additionally, you’ll examine the impact of socioeconomic factors on health outcomes, study human anatomy and physiology, understand common mental health disorders and treatments and analyze the policies and regulations governing health and social care systems. 

Can I continue working while I study? 

Yes, the CertHE programme is flexible and designed to accommodate those who are already employed. Our day-release programme allows you to continue earning while you study, making it easier to balance work, life, and education. This flexibility is ideal for mature students or those who need to maintain their current job while advancing their education. 

What are my options after completing the CertHE? 

Upon completing the CertHE in Health and Social Care, you’ll have the opportunity to progress to the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care Management and Leadership degree at our London campus, awarded by the University of Gloucestershire. Alternatively, you can use the CertHE to enter other related fields, such as nursing, by applying to other universities or training programmes. This qualification opens up numerous pathways in the health and social care sector.
