David Game Leading Access and Participation Workshop at SEER 2025

Posted on 18/11/25

The University Centre at David Game College (UCDG) will be leading a workshop at the SEER 2025 Symposium this month. The Chair of our Access and Participation Steering Group, Anne Whitehead, will share insights into how we have increased the ethnic diversity of our students through innovative and inclusive recruitment methods, and how we continue to support mature learners through flexible, pragmatic learning.

Access and Participation is at the Core of David Game’s Strategy

We welcome students from a range of backgrounds, many of whom balance study with work, family and other commitments. As a small, independent higher education provider with a higher than average share of low income, adult learners, we aim to offer a learning environment that feels accessible, supportive and relevant. This workshop will share some of the practical steps and lessons learned from our journey so far.

How we share our wins

The workshop will include:

  • Reporting on new approaches that increased ethnic diversity among new student enrolments
  • Strategies to help mature students feel confident returning to education and supported to succeed
  • A space for colleagues from across the sector to share experiences and best practice with each other
  • Idea generation to develop new opportunities among SEER members

What is SEER?

Specialist Evidence, Evaluation and Research (SEER) is a collaborative enterprise building capacity among higher education providers across the United Kingdom in Access and Participation Planning (APP) monitoring and evaluation practices. As a member, we at UCDG can be better informed, higher skilled and more ambitious with our targets to widen participation in education and support the greater success of our students.

By participating in conferences like this, we share knowledge to improve higher education, especially for underserved students in line with bigger picture goals set by the Office for Students (OfS). We look forward to connecting with colleagues at this year’s SEER conference and learning from the wider community.
