What is a “Top-Up” Degree?
Posted on 28/02/22
If you are entering the second year of your HND, you might want to explore what happens next. We at DGHE are always here to support you. Below we answered some of the most common questions our students ask us about the Top-up Degrees.
By the time you complete your HND, we want to make sure you have all the right information to make the best decision for you and your career.
Is the Top-Up Degree for me?
You might think that studying for two years for your HND is all you need, and an extra year is not for you. While we fully support you if you need a break from your studies, we want you to have all the information before making that decision.
A Top-up course is equivalent to the final year of a Bachelor Degree. This course will offer you the opportunity to graduate with a full undergraduate degree. DGHE Top-up Degrees are industry-specific, so you will enhance your existing subject knowledge and skills. A Top-up can also improve your employability prospects or allow you to continue to postgraduate study. Research shows that degree graduates are more likely to be employed for more senior positions.
What does the course include?
The Top-up Degree is a one-year course. For example, as an HND Business graduate at DGHE, we offer you the BA (Hons) Business Management Top-up option. Continuing your studies with us includes a number of benefits. The lecturers that you love and have supported you so far will continue to teach you; knowing you better than anyone, they’ll offer their bespoke feedback and guidance. You can still choose between daytime or evening & Saturdays studies. Everything DGHE has offered you in your HND will also be part of your Top-up. And the best part? For this course, we have partnered with the New Buckinghamshire University to offer you even more.
When and How do I apply?
Our Admission team will be by your side, to guide you step-by-step through the application process. We advise that you to contact us as soon as possible so you don’t miss any of the deadlines! We will make sure all your documents are ready for you to start as soon as you finish your HND. The course’s next start day is on the 3rd of October. We strongly encourage everyone to get in touch with us at admissions@dghe.ac.uk in April to start the process.
How can I fund it?
The Top-up courses at DGHE are eligible for Student Finance. Our team will help you apply for student finance for the extra year of your studies. The tuition fees are £9,250 and can be covered by the tuition fees loan.
